Weekends in Coogee, like the locals.

Coogee Beach has a year-round beachside vibe. For the locals, it involves getting up early for a swim and some exercise by the ocean, followed by a good coffee and a bite to eat from one of the many chic cafes on the coastline or dotted along the neighbourhood side streets. A spot of retail therapy is also made easy, with a selection of fine boutiques selling beachside-hip designer threads, homewares and accessories.

Coogee Shopping

Shopping

There are many village boutiques in Coogee to indulge in some local retail therapy. For an eclectic mix of homewares, Lived in Coogee and Black Boho both have a great range of designer and local label clothing and accessories. The Dreamer Label is a good one stop shop for womenswear, and By San Sebastian stocks a great range of cool threads and shoes for kids.

Further afield, Westfield Bondi Junction is a one-stop shopping destination for the whole family with both high-end labels, and many of the known commercial brands across fashion, beauty and lifestyle.

The Spot in Randwick is aptly named, as the ‘go-to’ for shopping, specialty stores and its heritage buildings including the iconic Ritz Cinema – catch the latest film after your retail fix.

The wider Eastern Suburbs is known as a fashionable Sydney hub. Coogee is only a stone’s throw from hip locations including Bondi, Double Bay and Randwick that offer a further variety of high end, street, and local labels.

Café culture

Food, glorious food. There are just too many delectable cafes and restaurants in and around Coogee to soak up the energetic buzz and satisfy a craving.

For a great coffee fix, you can’t go by Gusto Espresso Bar or Cali Press health café – also known for their incredible breakfasts! Barzura offers one of the best beachside coffee views, looking straight out across Coogee Beach.

The Little Kitchen is a favourite for its British-inspired fare. For the Francophile, then Le Petit Cafe hits the spot with its French pastries, crepes and other delicacies and Cafe De France is reminiscent of a European neighbourhood dining experience.

Later in the day, head to The Rooftop at Coogee Pavilion for an ideal vantage spot that is great for groups with four indoor and outdoor bars for a cocktail (or two) and Mediterranean style bites. This venue is also top for family dining, with its kids’ play area to the rear of the premise and menu that includes top pizzas.

For a more casual affair, A Fish Called Coogee is the must-visit for a serve of fish and chips – grab it takeaway, and dine by the beach.

Or further afield, head to Bondi for Matt Moran’s loved North Bondi Fish for the freshest of seafood, cocktails, and great people watching. While the best view in Bondi for breakfast, lunch or dinner has to go to the iconic Icebergs – the place where all the stars eat when they come to town for the quintessential Sydney experience.

If you don’t want to leave the hotel, Oceans dining & drinks on the ground floor of the hotel is a popular spot for a cocktail concoction, tapas fare, and to watch the big sporting games from the sunny outdoor terrace. It is a popular gathering place for locals, drawn to its ocean view terrace and beachside buzz.
