Sculptures By The Sea 2018
Sculpture by the Sea is the world’s largest annual free-to-the-public outdoor sculpture exhibition celebrates its 22nd anniversary this year, returning to Sydney’s spectacular Bondi to Coogee coastal walk from 18 October – 4 November 2018.
These amazing sculptural displays are clustered along the coastal walk primarily between Tamarama Beach and Bondi Beach. The iconic exhibition will see the coastline transformed into a 2km long sculpture park over three weeks featuring over 100 sculptures by artists from Australia and across the world.
Highlights of this year’s exhibition include:
- Transfield Australian Invited Artists with two leading female sculptors from both sides of the country, Wendy Teakel and Alessandra Rossi, presenting their latest works created for Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi.
- Works from the three 2018 Helen Lempriere Scholarship recipients, senior sculptor Hossein Valamanesh (SA), mid career artist Kevin Draper (WA) and emerging artist Britt Mikkelsen (WA).
- Emerging artists Georgina Humphries (VIC), Rhiannon West (NSW) and Nicole Monks (NSW) will exhibit sculptures as part of the Clitheroe Foundation Emerging Artists Mentor Program. Monks will be recreating the Aboriginal rock engravings of a whale shark situated on the Bondi headland using all native materials, which will then be illuminated by fire in a traditional ceremony at 7pm, Friday 19 October.
As one of Sydney’s most beloved and photographed events, Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi attracts approximately 450,000 visitors over the course of 18 days and signals the beginning of summer in Sydney.
